John C. Gingerich, P. Geo.
Position: Director, Chairman of the Board
A recognized leader within the mining and associated technology communities, Mr. Gingerich has served on a number of industry and government boards and committees, including the Exploration Division of the Canadian Mining Industry Research Organization (Chairman) and the Ontario Geological Survey Advisory Board (Chairman).
Mr. Gingerich, P. Geo., is a professional geophysicist (APGO) with over thirty-five years’ experience in exploration and mining industry technology. As a past Director of Research and Technical Innovation with Noranda Exploration, Mr. Gingerich was part of the senior management team and involved in the evaluation, acquisition, and development of mineral opportunities within Canada and around the world. Mr. Gingerich founded Geotechnical Business Solutions (GBS), a company dedicated to the development and financing of exploration opportunities and related technology.
Mr. Gingerich was a director of BacTech Mining Corporation, and became a director of BacTech Environmental Corporation following completion of the Plan of Arrangement in December 2010.
M. Ross Orr, B.A.
Position: Director, President & CEO
Ross Orr initially brought BacTech Mining Corporation to Canada from Australia in 1997 and was instrumental in the success of the Company’s IPO. He sat on the board as an outside Director until taking the role of President and CEO in 2004. Following completion of the Plan of Arrangement in December 2010 which split BacTech Mining into two new companies, REBgold Corporation and BacTech Environmental Corporation, Mr. Orr assumed the position of President & CEO of BacTech Environmental
The Hon.Tim Lewin
Mr. Lewin is a former Commodities Trader from London with more than thirty-five years experience in physical commodity trading including non-ferrous metals as traded on the London Metal Exchange. In 1992, he was selected to lead a team of market specialists to Russia in the immediate post-Perestroika years to assist that country to phase in “organized markets” to replace the Command Economy.
Mr. Lewin served on the Bank of England Committee that monitored markets before the FSA was formed, organised the first visit of the London Stock Exchange to Russia, and ran the first conference in London for Russian oil and gas. Mr. Lewin remains a director and advisor to a range of Russian Investment funds and regional Administrations. He was elected to the Board of BacTech Environmental on July 3, 2014.
W. Walter Cimowsky, B.Sc., MBA
Mr. Cimowsky is a founding partner and director of Ocean Partners Holdings Limited, a privately held company active in the global physical trading and marketing of copper, zinc, lead and precious metal concentrates. The company operates with an international network of field and agency offices. Ocean Partners provides or arranges financing for small/medium sized mining projects, and currently holds equity positions in mines located in Canada, Mexico and Turkey. Mr. Cimowsky was a director of BacTech Mining Corporation,and became a director of BacTech Environmental Corporation following completion of the Plan of Arrangement in December 2010.
Jay L. Naster, B.A., LL.B.
Mr. Naster is a partner with Brauti Thorning Zibarras LLP in the criminal and regulatory law group where his practice focuses on white-collar criminal and regulatory litigation and investigations. Following his call to the bar in 1986, Mr. Naster spent eleven years as a Crown counsel with the Crown Law Office (Criminal) where he specialized in complex white-collar criminal prosecutions, including corporate, securities and tax-related matters. In 1997, he became the senior litigation counsel at the Ontario Securities Commission, where he conducted complex quasi-criminal prosecutions and regulatory hearings pursuant to the Securities Act. In 2005, he entered private practice. Mr. Naster received his LL.B. cum laude from the University of Ottawa. He was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1986, and is a member of a number of professional associations including the Advocates Society and the Canadian Bar Association. Mr. Naster was a director of BacTech Mining Corporation, and became a director of BacTech Environmental Corporation following completion of the Plan of Arrangement in December 2010.
Donald A. Whalen, B.Com.
Mr. Whalen is the former Executive Chairman of High River Gold Mines Limited (1992-2008), which owned and operated the New Britannia Mine, now referred to as the Snow Lake Mine, in the late 1990s. The Snow Lake stockpile was created from production attributable to the aforementioned mine in the 1950s.
Prior to being involved with High River, Mr. Whalen spent 29 years with IBM Canada Ltd. He is the past Chairman of the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (1998-2008), and he was Co-Chair of the Canada Russia Business Council (2004-2006). In addition to BacTech, he currently sits on the boards of Pancontinental Gold Corp. and Roscan Minerals Corporation. Mr. Whalen has been a Director of BacTech Environmental Corporation since March 14, 2012.
Louis R. Nagy, C.P.A., C.A.
Position: Chief Financial Officer and Corporate Secretary
Mr. Nagy is a Chartered Accountant with over 28 years of professional service and industry experience. His professional service experience of 10 years includes public practice audit engagements, personal and corporate tax assignments, as well as sales tax recovery consulting. Industry experience includes various finance and accounting roles, including Chief Financial Officer within small to medium sized private and public companies. His time in industry involved a wide range of activities including financial and management reporting, treasury and cash management, reorganizations, IT and system implementations, as well as investment banking.
Mr. Nagy now provides internal and external financial reporting services, as well as corporate secretary services, as a part time CFO for a variety of small companies through his company, Your CFO Ltd. He has extensive experience in designing and creating financial reporting processes, which includes budgeting, operational analysis, statutory reporting and management reporting.
Mr. Nagy was Chief Financial Officer of BacTech Mining Corporation, and became CFO of BacTech Environmental Corporation following completion of the Plan of Arrangement in December 2010.
Dr. Paul C. Miller, B.Sc.Hons. (Minerals Engineering) MSc. (Biochemical Engineering) Ph.D. (Chemical Engineering) MBA M IMM, C-Eng
Position: Vice President, Technology and Engineering
Dr. Miller has over 25 years’ industrial experience in bioleaching and commercial applications. He commenced his career working for Mintek in South Africa in 1981, and formed the original group evaluating bioleaching as a potential treatment option. In 1986, he joined Davy McKee in the U.K. as a group leader responsible for development of process technology in support of worldwide contracting activities, with an emphasis on refractory gold projects, determining the feasibility of bioleaching against competing technologies. He joined BacTech Mining Corporation in Australia in 1996 as technical manager and, since that time, has been responsible for all technical aspects of projects, from initial test work and management of studies through to project design and execution.
Position: Chief Operating Officer
Ian has worked in the mining industry for 20 years around the globe, specializing in sulphide precipitation, water treatment, and environmental remediation. He has proven achievements in Operations Management obtained in both the field and the corporate platform complimented with honed project management skills.
Gary D. Williams, M.Sc., P.Geo.
Mr. Williams has worked in the mining industry since 1977, in both exploration and environmental capacities. He has conducted mineral exploration programs throughout Canada, as well as environmental investigations related to tailings and mine rock management at a variety of mining projects. His corporate responsibilities have included positions as President, Vice President Environment, Director and Advisor to junior TSX-listed exploration companies, from 2005 to the present. In addition, Mr. Williams was involved in the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario from its inception until 2008.
Oscar A. Alvarado, B.A.Sc., M.A., EPt
Position: Project Research Analyst
Mr. Alvarado is an interdisciplinary environmental professional with a background in biological and environmental science. He brings to BacTech a comprehensive understanding of the many aspects of environmental well-being and sustainability; from natural resource management and sustainable policy-making to emerging green technologies and public advocacy. His international experience includes conducting biotechnology research at a United Nations research institute in Italy, managing a nation-wide social media campaign as a Peace Fellow and Information Officer for the Coalition for Gun Control, teaching the principles of sustainable systems as a youth educator across several countries, and contributing to a wide range of environmental outreach activities for diverse organizations.
