Mihychuk to Steer Snow Lake Project
Toronto, Canada, March 14, 2012 – BacTech Environmental Corporation (“BacTech” or the “Company”, CNSX: BAC, WKN: A1H4TY) today announced a change to its board of directors and the appointment of a Vice President for its wholly-owned subsidiary that holds the Snow Lake, Manitoba project.
Mary Ann Mihychuk, M Sc., P Geo. requested that she step down from the board to assume the role of Vice President, Operations for BacTech Manitoba Corporation (“BMC”). BMC has 100% ownership of the Snow Lake project on behalf of BacTech. BacTech Manitoba has established an office in the National Research Council Business Commercialization Centre (BCC) in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
“We are pleased to have Mary Ann carry a more hands-on role with respect to Snow Lake. Much of what we have accomplished, in a relatively short period of time, can be traced back to her participation to date. Being a business leader, the former Mines Minister, a geologist and a native of Manitoba she has a strong affinity to seeing this project through to completion,” said Ross Orr, President and CEO of BacTech.
In addition, BacTech is pleased to announce the appointment of Don Whalen to the board of BacTech. Mr. Whalen is the former Executive Chairman of High River Gold Corporation (1992-2008), which owned and operated the New Britannia Mine (now called the Snow Lake Mine) in the late 1990s. The stockpile was created from production attributable to the aforementioned mine in the 1950s.
Prior to being involved with High River, Don spent 29 years with IBM Canada Ltd. He is the past Chairman of the Canada Eurasia Russia Business Association (CERBA)(1998-2008) and he was Co-Chair of the Canada Russia Business Council (2004-2006). He currently sits on the boards of Pancontinental Uranium Corp., Rosscan Minerals Corporation, SouthTech Capital Corporation and VMS Ventures Inc.
BacTech Environmental holds the exclusive, royalty-free rights to use the patented BACOX bioleaching technology for the reclamation of tailings and mining waste materials. On December 13, 2011, BacTech signed a contract with the Mines Branch of the Manitoba Department of Innovation, Energy and Mines, to remediate an arsenopyrite gold stockpile situated at the Snow Lake Mine in Snow Lake, Manitoba. This is the Company’s first project since the Plan of Arrangement was completed on December 2, 2010.
